Taking care of our health has never been more important, and with the rise of biotech, monitoring and improving our health has become easier than ever before. As someone who's interested in personal wellness, I'm always on the lookout for new tools and technologies that can help me optimize my physical and mental performance. One such tool I've been using is the Oura ring, which I wear to track my daily Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and Readiness scores.
HRV is a measure of the variation in time between each heartbeat, and it's a strong indicator of overall health and stress levels. By tracking my HRV with the Oura ring, I'm able to see how my body is responding to different activities, such as exercise, sleep, and stress and adjust my routine accordingly.
In addition to using the Oura ring, in 2020 I had my microbiome analyzed. The microbiome refers to the collection of microorganisms that live in and on our bodies and it plays a critical role in our overall health and wellbeing. By analyzing my microbiome, I was able to get a better understanding of the bacteria and other microorganisms present in my gut and adjust my diet to optimize my microbiome diversity.
For example, I discovered that while my "bad" bacteria levels were low due to my diet low in sugars, some of the important healthy bacteria were ridiculously low (only 15 of them!), which was weakening my ability to digest foods and absorb nutrients properly. By incorporating certain foods into my diet, I was able to improve the balance of my microbiome and improve my gut health.
It's utterly amazing to have access to this level of personal data about our own biometrics and microbiome results and the opportunities for improving our health and wellbeing are endless. I highly recommend checking out the BBC iPlayer program linked in the image to learn more about the innovative technologies being developed to improve health and wellness.
